A message from our Course Director, Barney
“The 10k course is very scenic and really quite tough. You can choose to test yourself or relax and enjoy the views, just don’t expect to get your personal best for the distance!
The single figure of eight course starts and finishes in the beautiful formal gardens at St Pauls Walden Bury but goes on through farm tracks and woods. There are no public roads and, even more significantly, no kissing gates or stiles to break your rhythm. People often comment that there’s more uphill or downhill – this isn’t the case (obviously!) but it can feel this way because you lose a fair amount of height quite quickly on a piece of track where its difficult to really let yourself go and recover from the long up hill which precedes it.
The 5k course is also scenic, although not quite so tough – its again a single circuit of mixed terrain with no gates or stiles, it has the same start and finish in the formal gardens.
This is the 14th year this course has been run and people have often commented on the amazing scenery, especially when we are only 30 miles from London.
The ground is uneven in parts and it can be slippery but normal running shoes have proved more than adequate in previous years fine – there are some patches of tarmacked drive so running spikes aren’t suitable.
Both courses have a water stop.
We look forward to seeing you”
